‎Activist Petitions Parliament to Curb Indecent Content on Ghanaian Airwaves

‎Kwadwo Atta Apeakorang, founder and leader of Save The Nation For Future Leaders, has submitted a formal petition to the Speaker of Parliament, urging the House to initiate a national debate and legislate against the rising tide of indecent language and inappropriate programming in Ghana’s media landscape.

‎In the petition dated May 23, 2025, Mr. Apeakorang raised concerns over the frequent broadcast of vulgar language, sexually explicit content, and culturally offensive material—particularly during peak hours accessible to children and young audiences.

‎He argued that such content poses a serious threat to public morality, national values, and the psychological well-being of Ghana’s youth. While regulatory bodies like the National Media Commission (NMC) and the National Communications Authority (NCA) have existing guidelines, he believes enforcement has been inadequate.

‎Mr. Apeakorang is calling on Parliament to consider legislative action that will:

‎Clearly define and prohibit indecent broadcasts,

‎Strengthen the enforcement powers of regulatory institutions, and

‎Impose appropriate penalties on violators.

‎According to the petitioner, a well-structured legal framework would help protect the integrity of Ghanaian culture and ensure media professionalism while upholding democratic principles.

‎He appealed to the Speaker’s leadership to treat the matter as one of national urgency, stressing the critical role of Parliament in safeguarding public decency and the moral fabric of society.

‎As of press time, Parliament has yet to officially respond to the petition.
