E/R:NIB Operatives Storm NPP Akwatia Office in Attempt to Arrest MP Ernest Kumi

Hon Ernest Yaw Ktumi (MP Akwatia)

Operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) stormed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) office in Akwatia, Eastern Region, in an attempt to arrest Ernest Kumi, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia.

Reports indicate that one of the NIB operatives allegedly brandished a firearm to force Kumi to comply with their demand to accompany them to the NIB office in Accra. The operatives reportedly arrived at the NPP office in three vehicles.

Before the incident, Ernest Kumi had participated in Friday Muslim prayers with the Muslim community in his constituency. However, he remained at the NPP Akwatia office and is said to have told the NIB operatives that he would voluntarily present himself at their office if his presence was genuinely required.

Further updates on the situation are expected.
