E/R:Let Peace Reign in Akyem Afosu: Youth Urge Calm, Call for IGP’s Intervention

The youth of Akyem Afosu in the Birem North District of the Eastern Region have called for peace and stability in their community, urging all factions to uphold unity and resist any attempts to incite violence over chieftaincy matters.

At a press conference, Baffour Owusu Aquah, speaking on behalf of the youth, emphasized the need for calm, recalling that Akyem Afosu had previously endured a one-and-a-half-year chieftaincy dispute. The matter was properly adjudicated in court, and the ruling unequivocally affirmed Nana Kofi Owusu Amoh III as the legitimate and rightful Chief of Akyem Afosu. Since the verdict, the town has enjoyed peace, with residents abiding by the law and focusing on development.

Baffour Owusu Aquah urged residents to reject any renewed disputes that could disrupt the hard-earned peace of the community. He also called on traditional leaders to resist any external attempts to manipulate the chieftaincy for selfish gains, stressing that unity and collaboration are essential for the progress of Akyem Afosu and the Birem North District.

Furthermore, he reiterated the commitment of the Chief of Akyem Afosu to the town’s development. He highlighted various initiatives, including the provision of essential services such as the Afosu durbar grounds, a police station, completion of the Afosu Palace, roads, a clinic, a market, and schools. According to him, the youth recognize *Nana Kofi Owusu Amoh III as their rightful leader and will not accept any attempt to impose another chief.

Issuing a strong warning, Baffour Owusu Aquah cautioned against any plans to install a rival chief on Thursday, stating that such an act could lead to irreversible chaos with severe consequences. He stressed that while the people of Akyem Afosu are peaceful, they will not allow their town to be plunged into turmoil due to the greed of a few individuals.

The youth, therefore, called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and relevant authorities to act swiftly to prevent any conflict and maintain peace in Akyem Afosu.
