Evelyn Korang Wins Eastern Regional Council of State Seat Amidst Strong Competition
Former Eastern Regional Women's Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Evelyn Korang, has emerged victorious in the keenly contested Eastern Regional Council of State election. She secured 17 votes out of the total 66 cast, beating several contenders to claim the prestigious position.
Nana Akosua Afrifa placed second with 12 votes, while Mr. Asiedu Ofei took the third spot with 8 votes. The competition initially saw 24 aspirants vying for the role, but two candidates withdrew before the election. However, they publicly declared their support for their preferred contenders.
The election, held at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) Conference Hall in Koforidua, was marked by an enthusiastic turnout of party supporters, predominantly from the ruling NDC. The heavy presence of security personnel ensured order throughout the process.
Despite the high anticipation, the election did not commence at the scheduled time, causing some delays. However, once the process began, it proceeded smoothly, culminating in Madam Evelyn Korang’s victory.
Her win is expected to strengthen the NDC’s influence in the region as she assumes the role of advising the President on issues concerning the Eastern Region and representing its interests at the national level.
