E/R:Kwahu Obo Queenmother Hosts 8th Annual New Year Party for Children
The Queenmother of Kwahu Obo, Nana Afriyie Fosua Kobour II, organized a festive New Year party to celebrate and uplift children in her community. This marks the 8th consecutive year of the event, which treated scores of children to food, drinks, and toffees. Activities included dance competitions and music, with prizes awarded to some participants.
In her address, Nana Afriyie Fosua Kobour II emphasized the significance of such gatherings in fostering socialization and joy among children during festive seasons. She highlighted the need to show love and care, ensuring that no child feels neglected.
“The party is designed to put smiles on the faces of children in the community, especially during festive seasons. It has been an annual event for eight years, and I am committed to sustaining it to ensure every child in Kwahu Obo receives care and attention,” she stated.
She also announced her donation of 50 school uniforms to children in the community as part of her efforts to support education. Nana Afriyie encouraged the children to stay focused and avoid negative behaviors such as teenage pregnancy, urging parents to prioritize their children’s education for a brighter future.
In a broader appeal, the Queenmother called on incoming President John Dramani Mahama to involve traditional leaders in national policy and decision-making processes. She expressed concerns about the exclusion of chiefs from crucial national matters, particularly in addressing issues like illegal mining (galamsey).
“Traditional leaders play a vital role in addressing community challenges, including galamsey. We urge the government to involve us in advocacy projects to better tackle these issues,” she added.
Nana Afriyie Fosua Kobour II reaffirmed her dedication to the well-being of children and her desire to work collaboratively with the government for the development of the Kwahu Obo community.
