Mahama's comment of ... *"Many African Countries Have Made Mistakes In The Past With The Introduction Of Free SHS"* should be enough rejection for his second coming- Ubuntu

The 1st Vice Chairman of the Abuakwa North NPP and a member of the NPP Manifesto Committee on Education, Mr. Daniel Obeng Acquah, popularly known as Ubuntu, has criticized former President John Mahama for his controversial statement that "many African countries have made mistakes in the past with the introduction of Free SHS." Ubuntu argued that such remarks should serve as a glaring reminder of Mahama’s lack of faith in progressive educational policies.

Mr. Obeng Acquah noted that the Free SHS policy has been a monumental success under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s leadership, positively transforming Ghana's educational landscape. He emphasized that the policy has directly benefited 5.7 million Ghanaians, creating access to secondary education for all children regardless of their financial background.

A significant achievement of the Free SHS initiative is the notable improvement in gender parity within Ghana’s educational system. The percentage of girls in second-cycle schools has surged from 35% in 2016 to 53.77% in 2024, based on figures from the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The girls-to-boys ratio under the Free SHS policy now stands at 0.97:1, a historic milestone that highlights the policy’s role in empowering young girls and bridging the gender gap in education.

Ubuntu expressed disappointment in Mahama’s initial rejection of the policy, especially given that the former president himself benefited from free education in his youth. "Mahama’s failure to advocate for a similar initiative during his tenure is not only disheartening but also a glaring contradiction of his own background," Ubuntu remarked. "His skepticism of Free SHS reveals a lack of vision for Ghana’s future and dismisses the profound impact the policy has had on families and communities."

He further called on Ghanaians to reflect on the successes of the Free SHS policy as they prepare to vote in the upcoming elections. Ubuntu stressed that this initiative has significantly alleviated financial burdens on parents, reduced school dropouts, and paved the way for a more educated and empowered society. Mahama’s criticism of such a transformative policy, he said, underscores his inability to prioritize the aspirations of Ghana’s youth.

Mr. Obeng Acquah encouraged Ghanaians to rally behind leaders like Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has consistently demonstrated forward-thinking leadership and a commitment to transformational policies. As Vice President, Dr. Bawumia has spearheaded initiatives in education, digitalization, and economic stability, all aimed at creating a brighter and more prosperous Ghana.

"The choice is clear," Ubuntu concluded. "Reject Mahama’s pessimism and embrace leaders who believe in the boundless potential of Ghanaians. The Free SHS policy is not just a success story—it is a testament to bold leadership and an unwavering belief in the future of every Ghanaian child."
