E/R:Agriculture is Lucrative as Any Other Business, Youth Urged to Show Keen Interest– Overall District Best Farmer Charges

At the Fanteakwa South District's Farmers' Day celebration in Nkankama, Madam Esther Yokwor Narh, the 56-year-old recipient of the Overall District Best Farmer and Female Best Farmer awards, urged the youth, especially women, to take farming seriously and view it as a lucrative venture just like any other business. She emphasized that agriculture should not be overlooked in favor of non-existent white-collar jobs and called on the government to increase financial support for women farmers to help improve their yields. Madam Narh highlighted the importance of providing active Extension Agents to complement the government's agricultural intervention programs, especially as more women enter the farming sector.

In his speech, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Fanteakwa South, Hon. Ernest Ofosu, called on young Ghanaians to seize the opportunity provided by government interventions in agriculture. He urged the youth to engage in farming, stating that they possess the potential to solve the challenges of youth unemployment. He emphasized that agriculture should not be left to the aged and uneducated, but rather should attract energetic youth and professionals who can bring innovation and growth to the sector.

Mr. Duke Ofori Atta, the Parliamentary Candidate for the Fanteakwa South Constituency, reiterated the government's commitment to supporting commercial farming with incentives and logistics to increase agricultural yields. He highlighted initiatives such as Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) and Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) as key measures to encourage more people to engage in agriculture. Mr. Ofori Atta also encouraged farmers to take advantage of the government's Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, noting that children of cocoa farmers will be eligible for free tertiary education starting in 2025 under Dr. Bawumia's presidency. He called on everyone to vote for the NPP in the upcoming elections, promising continued support for agriculture and farmers.
