E/R: Abuakwa North NDC Victory Walk Draws Thousands as Candidates Rally for Change Ahead of December Elections.
The Abuakwa North National Democratic Congress (NDC) held a massive Victory Walk on Sunday, October 13, 2024, drawing over 2,000 supporters from Akyem Old Tafo to Akyem Kukuratumi. The event was marked by the enthusiastic participation of mostly youth supporters, parliamentary candidates from neighboring constituencies, as well as both current and former NDC executives at the constituency, regional, and national levels, all proudly clad in the party's colors and paraphernalia.
The NDC Constituency Chairman for Abuakwa North, Alhaji Sadidi Mohammed, popularly known as Arab Money, welcomed the crowd with enthusiasm, stating that the large turnout was a clear indication that change is imminent. He urged all supporters to embrace this momentum, rally behind the parliamentary candidates, and actively participate in aggressive campaigns at all levels. Alhaji Mohammed emphasized the need for collective effort, calling on everyone to join hands in supporting the campaign, rather than leaving the task solely to the parliamentary candidate, to ensure a decisive victory in the upcoming elections.
Addressing the energized crowd at the Akyem Kukurantumi lorry station, Mr. Charles Darko Yeboah, popularly known as Ozey, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Abuakwa North, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the supporters for their impressive turnout. He noted that the large crowd was a clear sign of a promising victory for the NDC in the upcoming general elections on December 7.
Mr. Darko Yeboah highlighted his philanthropic background, emphasizing that his commitment to community development motivated his decision to enter politics. He believes that his experience as a philanthropist would greatly benefit the constituents of Abuakwa North. He encouraged the people to vote for leaders who genuinely listen to their needs and work towards meeting them, rather than those who turn a deaf ear to the people's concerns.
Drawing attention to his and former President John Dramani Mahama's experience, Mr. Darko Yeboah described this year's elections as a contest of proven leadership. He pointed out that Mr. Mahama, as a former president, has already served the country diligently, while he himself has supported underprivileged individuals by paying school fees, caring for orphans, and assisting the elderly and widows. He argued that their combined experience and dedication make them the ideal candidates to lead the constituency and the nation.
In his speech, Mr. Darko Yeboah assured the audience of John Dramani Mahama's commitment to establishing new secondary schools in the constituency, providing scholarships, creating a women's bank to empower female entrepreneurs, and increasing youth employment opportunities, especially in various security services.
Ambassador Victor Smith, former Eastern Regional Minister and Ghana's former Ambassador to the United Kingdom, also addressed the crowd, urging them to vote out the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in favor of the NDC for a brighter future. He criticized the NPP's handling of the economy, blaming Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the chairman of the Economic Management Team, for its failures. Ambassador Smith called on Ghanaians to reject Dr. Bawumia's presidential bid.
He also expressed concern over the NPP's failure to protect the environment, citing the destruction of Ghana's forest reserves and water bodies due to illegal mining. He promised that, if elected, the NDC would adopt more responsible mining practices to ensure sustainable development.
The event concluded with a resounding call for voters to support Mr. Charles Darko Yeboah and John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming elections to bring socio-economic development to the constituency and the nation as a whole.
