Akyem Tafo, Eastern Region – July 1, 2026

The Area Sales Manager for MTN Ghana in the Eastern, Volta and Oti Regions, Mr. Ransford Gyan, has reaffirmed the telecommunications company's unwavering commitment to supporting cultural heritage and community development, describing traditional festivals as powerful platforms for promoting unity, preserving identity and driving local economic growth.

Speaking in an interview with the media after MTN Ghana presented a donation to Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Chief of Akyem Tafo, during this year's Ohumkan Festival at the Awansa Palace on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Mr. Gyan said MTN remains proud of its longstanding partnership with the Akyem Tafo Traditional Area.

According to him, the annual Ohumkan Festival continues to showcase the rich history, values and traditions of the people of Akyem Tafo while creating opportunities for businesses, artisans, traders, transport operators, food vendors and other small enterprises to thrive.

He noted that MTN believes in being a force for good by investing in communities and supporting initiatives that promote social cohesion and economic development.

Mr. Gyan explained that as part of MTN Ghana's support for this year's festival, the company donated GH¢20,000 in cash, airtime worth GH¢1,000, and a drinks hamper to support the successful celebration.

He further revealed that the donation forms part of MTN's activities marking its 30th anniversary under the theme "30 Years of Progress, Powered by You," emphasizing that the company has, over the past three decades, gone beyond providing telecommunications services to becoming a trusted partner in national development by empowering businesses, connecting people and improving livelihoods.

Mr. Gyan also announced that throughout the festival period, MTN would establish customer experience centres at strategic locations within Akyem Tafo to bring its services closer to customers. He said dedicated teams would be on hand to assist customers with products, services and other enquiries to enhance their overall experience.

He expressed gratitude to Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, the chiefs, elders and people of the Akyem Tafo Traditional Area for their continuous loyalty and support for the MTN brand over the years. He also commended the Ohumkan Festival Planning Committee for its dedication in ensuring another successful celebration.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Akyem Tafo Traditional Area, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Chief of Akyem Tafo, expressed profound appreciation to MTN Ghana for its consistent support towards the development and success of the Ohumkan Festival.

The Chief described the relationship between MTN Ghana and the traditional area as cordial and mutually beneficial, noting that the company's annual contributions have played an important role in promoting the festival and supporting community development.

While thanking MTN for the generous donation, Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV appealed to the telecommunications company to further improve the quality and reliability of its network services within the area. He stressed that enhanced telecommunications services would significantly boost commerce, education, communication and other socio-economic activities, ultimately contributing to the overall development of the Akyem Tafo Traditional Area.

The presentation formed part of activities marking this year's Ohumkan Festival, which brought together traditional leaders, community members, development partners and invited guests to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Akyem Tafo.
