E/R:Concerned NPP Youth in Abuakwa North Demand Immediate Action to Protect Party Unity
A group calling itself the Concerned Youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa North Constituency has appealed to the party's leadership to urgently address what it describes as growing concerns over recent decisions affecting constituency executives, warning that failure to act could undermine party unity and affect the party's electoral fortunes.
Addressing a press conference, Mr. Wilson Atuahene, speaking on behalf of the group, said the youth were compelled to publicly express their dissatisfaction over developments they believe threaten the integrity and cohesion of the constituency.
According to him, the group's concerns stem from the recent decision involving the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Hon. Nana Kwame Addo Frimpong, together with the Eastern Regional Chairman and Regional Secretary, to remove four polling station executives from their positions. The affected executives were named as Oye Florence, Robert Bafour Kofi, Baah Harrison, and Stella Kwakye.
Mr. Atuahene argued that the allegations against the four executives reportedly relate to events that occurred in 2024, stressing that no objections were raised at the time and that all four individuals subsequently participated in the party's recent flagbearer election without challenge.
He questioned why disciplinary action was being pursued two years later without broad consultation at the constituency level, describing the process as one that risks creating perceptions of unfairness and instability within the party.
The group further maintained that if there were personal grievances involving the Member of Parliament, such matters should be addressed directly rather than involving regional executives without transparent communication. According to the group, this approach has generated concerns among party members regarding due process.
Mr. Atuahene disclosed that the Constituency Executive Committee had formally responded to the Regional Executive Committee on the matter but expressed concern that the regional leadership might not have adequately consulted all relevant stakeholders before taking action.
The Concerned Youth therefore demanded the immediate reinstatement of the four polling station executives by the close of business on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. They warned that failure to meet the deadline could compel them to reconsider participation in the upcoming constituency elections, although they emphasized that such a step would only be taken as a last resort if internal democratic processes were not respected.
The group also raised concerns over what it described as possible alterations to the constituency's duplicate album. According to Mr. Atuahene, they had received reports alleging that some previously validated names had been removed. He further alleged that Mr. Otuo-Serebour and Mr. Zukanen Shaibu, the Eastern Regional Deputy Nasara Organizer and the regional representative on the validation committee, may have been involved in the alleged changes.
He explained that the names in question had already been validated by the national team in the presence of the Constituency Chairman, Deputy Secretary and National IT personnel, including Mr. Blankson. He argued that any subsequent changes to validated records would naturally raise questions about adherence to established procedures and the credibility of the electoral process.
Mr. Atuahene called on Mr. Blankson and the National IT team to investigate the alleged alterations, restore any valid names removed from the duplicate album, and officially certify the accuracy of the register before any further electoral processes are undertaken.
He further urged all stakeholders to act promptly, warning that should the concerns remain unresolved, the group would consider pursuing lawful avenues to safeguard the rights of party members and protect the interests of the constituency.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the New Patriotic Party, the Concerned Youth stressed their commitment to due process, transparency, accountability and unity. They appealed to the Member of Parliament, the Eastern Regional Chairman, the Regional Secretary and the national leadership to engage in constructive dialogue and take swift action to resolve the impasse in the interest of party cohesion.
Meanwhile, Nana Ofosu Asante Twum, the Abuakwa North Constituency NPP Elections and Research Director, confirmed that the concerns raised by the group reflected the current situation within the constituency. He urged the party's leadership to act swiftly to prevent any further escalation of tensions.
According to Nana Ofosu Asante Twum, resolving the issues amicably and restoring confidence among party members would strengthen unity and help maximize the NPP's votes in Abuakwa North in future elections. He emphasized that a united front remains essential for the party's electoral success and called on all stakeholders to place the collective interest of the party above individual differences.
