E/R:A Decade On: Abuakwa North Demands Monument in Honour of Late MP J.B. Danquah Adu
Today marks exactly ten years since the tragic and painful death of Hon. Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, whose life was brutally cut short in a shocking act that shook the entire nation.
A decade after his untimely murder, the memory of Hon. Danquah Adu remains deeply etched in the hearts of his constituents, family, friends, and political associates. His passing was not only a loss to Abuakwa North but a great blow to Ghana’s democratic and political landscape. Known for his humility, accessibility, and commitment to development, Hon. Danquah Adu was widely regarded as a servant-leader who placed the welfare of his people above all else.
Ten years on, the pain of that dark day still lingers. While the legal process surrounding his murder continues in the courts, many residents of Abuakwa North say the emotional wounds have not fully healed. For them, justice is still a work in progress, and remembrance has become a sacred duty.
In interviews conducted across the constituency, community members, opinion leaders, youth groups, and other key stakeholders made a passionate appeal for a lasting tribute to be erected in his honour. According to them, a monument dedicated to the late MP will not only preserve his legacy but also serve as a symbol of remembrance for future generations.
They believe such a monument will stand as a reminder of his dedication to the development of Abuakwa North, his advocacy for his people in Parliament, and his unwavering commitment to public service. Many described him as a unifier and a voice for the voiceless whose vision for the constituency was abruptly interrupted.
Some residents emphasized that the monument would provide a place for reflection and remembrance, especially for the youth who may not have had the opportunity to witness his leadership firsthand. Others noted that this gesture would show that the constituency has not forgotten the sacrifices he made in service to his people.
As Ghana reflects on the life and legacy of Hon. J.B. Danquah Adu today, the call from Abuakwa North grows louder: to immortalize their fallen leader with a monument that will forever tell the story of a man who served his people with dedication until his last breath.
For the people of Abuakwa North, this is more than a memorial — it is a call to honour a legacy, preserve history, and ensure that the name J.B. Danquah Adu is never forgotten.
