Six Arrested Over Kwabenya Shooting Incident Involving Adwoa Safo
Accra, June 21, 2026 – The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a police statement issued by the Accra Regional Public Affairs Unit, the arrests followed investigations into the incident which occurred on June 21, 2026.
Police disclosed that a search conducted after the arrests led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, a Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of ammunition, and other communication equipment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that officers from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya and proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival, the officers established that a ceremony was taking place at the residence of Mr. Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, also known as Akofena. Reports suggest that Hon. Adwoa Safo arrived at the premises and requested access but was allegedly denied entry.
Further investigations revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in injuries to Hon. Adwoa Safo. Police also found multiple gunshot marks on her vehicle.
The suspects, together with the retrieved weapons and other exhibits, have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist with ongoing investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and arrest all other persons connected to the shooting incident as investigations continue.
