E/R:Kwahu Paramount Queenmother Calls for Immediate Transfer of Regional Police Commander Over Chieftaincy Disputes

The Paramount Queenmother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyemfuah III, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the National Security to immediately transfer the Eastern North Regional Police Commander, ACP Kwadjo Asante, for allegedly fueling chieftaincy disputes in the Kwahu Traditional Area.

According to Nana Adwoa Gyemfuah III, instead of ensuring law and order, ACP Asante has been interfering in traditional affairs, a role beyond his mandate. She emphasized that he has no authority to determine who ascends the Kwahu Paramount Stool and should be removed to prevent further unrest.

Speaking at a gathering of Kwahu chiefs during the first Akwasidae festival celebrated with the newly installed Paramount Chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, the Chief of Kwahu Tafo, Nana Opoku Mintah III, echoed the Queenmother’s concerns. He urged the IGP to provide adequate security in the traditional area to prevent conflicts related to the chieftaincy dispute. He also reassured that the proper customary processes have been followed in installing Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, and the necessary legal steps are ongoing to finalize his recognition.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of Kwahuhene Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, the Chief of Kwahu Abetifi, Acheamfour Asiedu Agyemang III, expressed appreciation for the chiefs' unity and commitment to peace. He welcomed their support in celebrating Akwasidae with the new Kwahuhene and pledged continued collaboration to ensure harmony in the traditional area.

The chiefs urged swift action from the authorities to restore peace and maintain the integrity of the traditional leadership in Kwahu.
