The Adenta Divisional Police Commander, ACP Susana Adjei, has called for stronger collaboration between the police and the public, stressing that ensuring peace and security is a shared responsibility that cannot be borne by the Police Service alone.

Speaking at the 2026 West African Security Services Association (WASSA) celebration held in Adenta on Friday, June 26, 2026, ACP Adjei underscored the importance of building trust and cooperation between security agencies and the communities they serve. The event brought together police officers, officials from the Adenta and La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assemblies, representatives of other security agencies, and members of the public to celebrate the dedication and achievements of personnel.

Drawing inspiration from the policing philosophy of Sir Robert Peel established in 1829, ACP Adjei noted that effective policing depends largely on public support and participation. She reiterated that the police and the public are inseparable partners in maintaining law and order.

"The police are the public and the public are the police. The failure or success of the police depends on the strong partnerships we build among ourselves," she stated.

She further emphasized that police officers are ordinary citizens entrusted with the responsibility of protecting society, adding that every citizen also has a role to play in safeguarding their communities.

"I always say police officers are citizens in uniform and citizens are officers without uniform. That is why partnership creates a safe and secure community," she remarked.

ACP Adjei also reminded officers of the words of Ghana's first Inspector General of Police after independence, the late J.H. Cobbina, who maintained that police officers must remain servants of the people rather than their masters.

According to her, modern policing has evolved beyond the use of force, making community engagement and intelligence gathering indispensable tools in crime prevention.

"Where your hand is not, your eye is not. A police officer cannot be at every corner, in every home or at every dark area at midnight. Police cannot be everywhere; therefore, the community must also be there," she said.

She explained that while the core responsibilities of the Police Service remain the prevention and detection of crime as well as the protection of lives and property, achieving these objectives requires active cooperation from the public.

Hon Mohammed Faila (MCE La-Nkwantanang-Madina)

The Municipal Chief Executive for La Nkwantanang-Madina, Mohammed Faila, commended the WASSA celebration for promoting unity and collaboration among the various security institutions. He observed that the responsibilities of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service and the National Intelligence Bureau are interconnected, making collaboration essential to national security.

Mr. Faila pledged the commitment of both the La Nkwantanang-Madina and Adenta Municipal Assemblies to support the construction of a modern office complex for the Adenta Divisional and District Police Command. He assured the Police Command of the assemblies' continuous support whenever the need arises.

Hon Christiana Ella Nango (MCE for Adenta)

The Municipal Chief Executive for Adenta, Christiana Ella Nango, also praised officers for their dedication, professionalism and sacrifices in maintaining peace and security within the municipality. She disclosed that the Assembly had recently donated two motorbikes to the Divisional Command and facilitated the repair of faulty police vehicles to strengthen patrol operations and improve police visibility.

Mrs. Nango reaffirmed the Assembly's commitment to supporting the security services, noting that security remains a collective responsibility requiring sustained collaboration between government institutions and the public.

She assured residents that the Assembly would continue to provide the necessary logistical and institutional support to enable the police to effectively discharge their constitutional mandate.
