E/R: Kwahu West MCE Distributes Start-Up Tools, Cash to 70 PWDs, Urges Beneficiaries to Use Items Productively

The Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West Municipality, _Hon. Tamimu Halidu_, has distributed assorted start-up tools and cash support to 70 registered Persons with Disabilities, PWDs, with a strong call on them to use the items to establish businesses and improve their living standards.

The support, funded from 5% of the Assembly’s share of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund, DACF, included deep freezers with stabilizers, electric sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, knitting machines, Canon digital cameras, and other items. Each beneficiary received items based on their specific trade request, after assessment by the Assembly’s Department of Social Welfare.

Presenting the items at Nkawkaw, Hon. Tamimu stressed that the initiative was aimed at reducing poverty and promoting economic independence among PWDs in the municipality.

He cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the tools, and urged them to put the equipment to its intended use to generate income.

“These working tools and the cash support are meant to set you up in business, not for resale. I am appealing to all 70 beneficiaries to use them for their intended purpose. When you use them well, you will not only improve your own lives but also reduce poverty among PWDs in Kwahu West,” the MCE said.

He added that the Assembly remains committed to supporting vulnerable groups through inclusive policies that create opportunities for all residents to contribute to local development.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government and the MCE for the intervention. They described the support as “transformational” and assured that they would use the items strictly for business purposes as intended.

The gesture by the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly forms part of broader efforts to empower PWDs and ensure they are not left behind in national development. Social Welfare officials say they will monitor the use of the items to ensure the objective of the support is achieved.
