Joana Gyan Cudjoe Appeals for Urgent National Support as Floods Displace Thousands in Western Region
A Cry for Samreboi
The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has made a passionate appeal to the Government of Ghana, development partners, and citizens across the country to urgently support victims of the devastating floods that have ravaged Samreboi and surrounding communities in the Western Region.
Describing the situation as a humanitarian catastrophe, the MP said relentless rainfall has submerged homes and displaced more than 1,500 households across the Amenfi West, Amenfi Central, and Amenfi East districts, leaving many families stranded without shelter, food, and other basic necessities.

According to her, the floods have rendered major roads impassable, disrupted economic activities, and forced businesses to shut down, deepening the hardship faced by affected residents. She noted that many families are struggling to survive, with children sleeping in open spaces while parents desperately search for safety and relief.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe expressed profound gratitude to the Managing Director of Samartex Timber and Plywood, Dr. Richard Kweku Duah Nsenkyire, for his leadership and support during the crisis. She, however, stressed that the scale of the disaster requires a coordinated national response.

The MP called on President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and key government ministries, including the Ministries of Environment, Lands and Natural Resources, Defence, Education, and Local Government, to urgently intervene by providing food supplies, medical assistance, emergency relief items, and support for the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure.
“This is not just Samreboi’s fight; it is Ghana’s fight,” she emphasized, urging all Ghanaians to demonstrate solidarity with affected communities during this difficult period.
Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe appealed for swift and compassionate action, warning that the welfare of thousands of families, especially vulnerable children, depends on immediate assistance and long-term measures to restore livelihoods and rebuild the affected communities.
