E/R:Akyem Kukurantumi Chief Raises Alarm on Rising Drug Abuse Among Youth, Vows Action
The Chief of Akyem Kukurantumi, who also serves as the Adontenhene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area and a Council of State member, has expressed deep concern over the increasing rate of drug abuse and promiscuous behavior among the youth in the municipality. He called on parents to take greater responsibility in guiding their children to prevent delinquent behaviors that threaten the future of the younger generation.
Delivering a speech on his behalf at the 68th Independence Day celebration at St. Paul’s Technical School Park in Akyem Kukurantumi on March 6, 2025, the Mmratohene, Barima Owusu Frempong, conveyed the Chief’s strong stance on youth misconduct, particularly drug abuse and its devastating effects on individuals and the community. He warned that drug addiction not only ruins lives but also hinders the overall development of the municipality.
To address these growing concerns, he announced that the Chief and elders have resolved to take strict action against students found loitering at night. He cautioned that such children would face disciplinary measures as a way to curb teenage pregnancy, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, and the growing menace of substance abuse. He emphasized that instilling discipline in the youth is crucial for building a responsible and prosperous society.
The Chief also acknowledged the significant progress made in the Abuakwa North Municipality since its separation from East Akim and expressed appreciation to all who contributed to its development. However, he stressed that sustainable growth could only be achieved if the youth, who are the backbone of the future, are guided and protected from vices such as drug abuse.
In conclusion, he called on all community members to unite, uphold patriotic values, and actively participate in building a resilient and thriving society. He urged parents, teachers, and local authorities to work together in shaping a disciplined and well-focused generation, ensuring a brighter future for Abuakwa North and Ghana as a whole.
