E/R:Nkawkaw Holy Family Nursing College Celebrates 50 Years, Appeals for Support to Build Student Hostels

Nkawkaw Holy Family Nursing Training College has marked its golden jubilee with a call for support from corporate bodies and investors to address critical infrastructure needs, particularly the construction of hostels for students.

Speaking at the 50th-anniversary celebration, the principal of the college, Olivia Pomaa, emphasized the importance of adequate accommodation facilities in improving the quality of teaching and learning. She noted that the lack of hostels has been a major challenge for the institution, limiting its capacity to admit more students and hindering overall academic growth.

“For the past fifty years, the school has made significant positive impacts, producing well-trained nurses who have contributed to healthcare delivery in Ghana. However, we need support, especially in terms of infrastructure, to continue this legacy and even expand our operations,” she stated.

The principal appealed to corporate organizations, philanthropists, and stakeholders to invest in the institution by funding hostel construction, which she described as a critical intervention for enhancing the student experience and enabling the college to admit and train more healthcare professionals.

The anniversary celebration was also graced by the Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, Rev. Joseph Afrifah Agyekum, who lauded the achievements of the college over the past five decades. He commended the staff and management for their dedication to producing skilled nurses and pledged his support to the institution.

“As a diocese, we recognize the tremendous work this college has done in shaping the healthcare workforce of Ghana. I promise to work towards introducing more academic programs to elevate the status of the school and enhance its reputation,” Bishop Afrifah Agyekum said.

The event brought together alumni, staff, students, and other stakeholders who celebrated the college's milestones and reflected on its journey. The call for support underscores the institution's commitment to sustaining its legacy while addressing current challenges to create a conducive learning environment for future healthcare professionals.
