Former MP Adwoa Safo Reportedly Injured in Shooting Incident Amid Kristo Asafo Succession Tensions

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, is reportedly receiving medical treatment after gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle during an incident linked to ongoing tensions within the Kristo Asafo leadership succession process.


According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, popularly known as Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena. He was reportedly meeting and organizing supporters as part of efforts to install him as the successor to his late father, Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo.


Sources indicate that tensions escalated at the premises, prompting officers from the Dome District Police Command to intervene after receiving reports of a disturbance. Security personnel were subsequently deployed to the area to restore calm and maintain order.


Eyewitness accounts claim that armed men allegedly opened fire on the vehicle carrying Hon. Adwoa Safo while she was at the location. Reports suggest that approximately 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged during the incident. One of the bullets is said to have grazed the former legislator near her neck, resulting in injuries that required immediate medical attention.


Hon. Adwoa Safo was reportedly rushed to a medical facility for treatment and is said to be in stable condition. Family sources have indicated that her injuries are not life-threatening.


The shooting incident comes against the backdrop of an ongoing dispute over the succession of the late Apostle Emeritus Kwadwo Safo, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission. The succession process has reportedly generated divisions within the family and has become the subject of legal challenges, with some relatives opposing attempts to install Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the next leader of the movement.


As of the time of this report, the Ghana Police Service had not issued an official statement regarding the incident. Authorities are expected to launch investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.


The situation remains a developing story, and further details are expected to emerge as investigations continue.
