E/R:Abuakwa South MP Provides Relief to Sawla Gbenyiri Conflict Victims in Kyebi

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, on September 5, 2025, extended support to thirty displaced victims of the Sawla Gbenyiri conflict in the Savannah Region who have sought refuge at Akyem Kyebi-Oman through the Abuakwa South NADMO Secretariat.

The relief package included blankets, slippers, buckets, bags of gari and beans, clothing, sanitary pads, soaps, tissue papers, toiletries, and other essential items. The donation was made on behalf of the MP by Mr. Samuel Appiah, a former Abuakwa South NPP Organizer and NADMO Director.

Mr. Appiah explained that the MP’s office acted swiftly after receiving an appeal from the Abuakwa South NADMO Secretariat on September 4, 2025, to support the displaced victims. He stressed the importance of peace and unity in fostering development and urged the people of Sawla to embrace reconciliation.

The Abuakwa South NADMO Director, Mr. Aikins Ofori, who received the items on behalf of the victims, expressed gratitude to Dr. Agyemang for his timely intervention. He also appealed to civil society organizations, NGOs, and philanthropists to complement government efforts in supporting the victims.

Mr. Ofori further revealed plans to collaborate with other state institutions to safeguard the victims and provide them with apprenticeship opportunities and employable skills to deter them from engaging in social vices, particularly illegal mining.

Some of the victims shared harrowing accounts of how they fled their homes, spending nearly two weeks in the bush before being escorted by police to safety. They expressed appreciation to Dr. Agyemang and NADMO for their assistance while calling on government to intensify efforts to restore peace in Sawla.

It will be recalled that renewed clashes between the Gonja and Brifor communities have displaced hundreds of residents in the Savannah Region. Meanwhile, President John Mahama has initiated measures aimed at restoring lasting peace in the Sawla-Bole area.
