E/R:Task Force Impounds 400 Bags of Cocoa Bound for Togo in Nketepa

The National Anti-Cocoa Smuggling Task Force, in collaboration with the Nketepa Community Watchdog Committee, has intercepted two trucks loaded with 400 bags of cocoa allegedly being smuggled to Togo. Four individuals have been arrested to assist with investigations.

Speaking to Afia Agyeimaa Budu, Bosu Yaw, the Assembly Member for the Nketepa Electoral Area, revealed that their community has become a hotspot for smugglers exporting goods to Togo. He highlighted the pivotal role of the Watchdog Committee in combating such activities and appealed for logistical support, such as motorbikes, to enhance their operations.

The commander of the Nketepa Watchdog Committee, Anthony Ablor, explained that the team had been monitoring the smuggling attempt for a week before successfully apprehending the trucks around 1 a.m. While the drivers and their assistants initially fled, the police intervened to ensure the arrests. Ablor also noted the challenges posed by armed robbers and smugglers frequently using the area.

In a related development, COCOBOD has reiterated its commitment to combating cocoa smuggling by offering rewards to individuals who provide credible information leading to arrests.
