E/R:Transforming Transportation: Kwahu Afram Plains Drivers Praise Government’s DRIP Initiative for Road Improvements
In the Kwahu Afram Plains North district, local drivers are voicing their gratitude for the government’s District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP), which has significantly improved the region’s road infrastructure. Known for its challenging terrain and long-standing road issues, Kwahu Afram Plains has historically struggled with accessibility, impacting both daily life and economic activities. Now, with the implementation of DRIP, many of the district’s roads are finally seeing much-needed reshaping, making travel easier and safer for residents.
Drivers in the area shared their appreciation with reporter Afia Agyeimaa Budu, noting the substantial difference DRIP has made. Many highlighted that previously difficult and uneven roadways have become smoother, allowing for safer and quicker transportation. The drivers added that improved roads positively impact their livelihoods, as vehicles can navigate these areas with fewer breakdowns and reduced maintenance costs. They appealed to authorities to conduct reshaping operations every three months to maintain this progress, and they also expressed hope that some roads will eventually be fully tarred, which would provide a long-term solution to the region’s infrastructure challenges.
To gain further insight, Afia Agyeimaa Budu met with the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Isaac Nana Okoree, who echoed the drivers' sentiments. DCE Okoree confirmed that DRIP has eased transportation challenges across the district, enabling smoother movement of goods and people. Looking ahead, he committed to pursuing further road improvements, including plans to begin tarring major roads by 2025, should the New Patriotic Party (NPP) retain its mandate in the upcoming elections.
The DRIP initiative is a part of the government’s broader effort to enhance infrastructure across Ghana, especially in underserved areas where road quality affects both economic activity and quality of life. The positive response from Kwahu Afram Plains North drivers underscores the transformative impact of the project, and residents remain optimistic about the potential for continued improvements in the years to come.
