E/R: Rising Insecurity in Kwahu Afram Plains North: Independent Candidate Appeals for Urgent Protection Amid Supporter Attacks

The escalating insecurity in the Kwahu Afram Plains North Constituency has sparked a public plea for intervention, as Independent Parliamentary candidate, Lawyer Kpeli Worlase, calls on authorities to ensure the safety of his supporters. Worlase reports that a series of recent attacks have left his campaign team fearful of venturing out, citing instances of violent assaults and even shootings targeted at his followers.

At a press conference held in Donkorkrom, Sampson Kudzo Ayitey, a representative speaking on behalf of Worlase, detailed the concerning incidents. According to Ayitey, the attacks have led to several injuries, with at least one victim requiring hospitalization. Describing these assaults as "alarming and unacceptable," Ayitey emphasized the need for an immediate response to protect not only Worlase’s supporters but also the broader community.

“These attacks have shaken the confidence of our supporters. They are scared to participate in campaign activities, which is undermining the democratic process,” Ayitey stated. He expressed hope that local authorities, including the District Chief Executive (DCE) and security agencies, will take swift action to address the growing unrest and ensure a secure environment for all residents of Afram Plains, particularly as election activities intensify.

In addition to Ayitey’s appeal, some of the victims themselves spoke to the media, sharing firsthand accounts of their experiences. They described the physical and emotional toll these violent encounters have taken and urged for an increase in police presence to curb further incidents.

Lawyer Kpeli Worlase’s appeal comes at a critical moment for the Kwahu Afram Plains North Constituency, where heightened tensions threaten the safety of constituents. The call for action underscores the essential role of security in the democratic process, and supporters hope that swift measures will be implemented to restore calm and facilitate peaceful campaigning in the area.
