E/R:Global Farming and Technological Institute Organizes Free 3-Day Poultry Training to Boost Youth Agribusiness in Abuakwa North

Global Farming and Technological Institute Limited, located at Akyem Old Tafo in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, has organized a free three-day intensive poultry management and smart Agric Technology programme from 24th to 26th February 2026 aimed at strengthening poultry production and promoting youth participation in agriculture.

The training programme targeted Agriculture teachers in secondary schools within the enclave and local farmers, attracting about 50 participants.

Mr. Aikins Anthony Amaning, a facilitator of the programme who also doubles as the Abuakwa South Best Poultry Farmer, explained that the training provided comprehensive practical knowledge in modern poultry production. He stated that participants were taken through proper transportation of day-old chicks, brooding and general care, the effects of smoke in poultry coops, appropriate feeding at various growth stages and feed formulation methods, farm biosecurity measures, the different types of poultry systems including deep litter, battery cage and free-range, vaccination schedules, proper record keeping, and how to identify poultry diseases using physical signs. He further disclosed that an expert was invited to provide hands-on training on assembling battery cage systems to ensure participants gained practical experience.

Another facilitator, Nana Asare Afoakwa, emphasized the need to integrate smart technology into poultry production to complement government initiatives such as the Nkoko Nketenkete Programme. According to him, breeding local birds would significantly reduce imports, boost exports, enhance food security and create employment opportunities, particularly for women and the youth, thereby promoting socio-economic development. He therefore called on government to support private agricultural initiatives to ensure sustainability and growth.

The General Manager of the institute, Mr. Ntiamoah, explained that the training forms part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility and its broader vision of encouraging youth participation in agriculture, a sector he described as overlooked for years. He revealed that the institute runs a six-month CTVET-certified course affiliated with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), offered at minimal fees with hostel accommodation available.

Highlighting their achievements, he noted that the institute has collaborated with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and currently manages over 9,000 poultry birds made up of layers aged four and nine weeks. Additionally, battery cage systems capable of accommodating over 120 birds have been distributed to 20 selected farmers to support their operations. However, Mr. Ntiamoah appealed to government for urgent assistance, explaining that the institution is not connected to the national grid and relies solely on a generator plant, which makes smooth operations difficult. He also revealed that participants suggested establishing poultry farms in second-cycle schools to support feeding and provide practical training, a proposal he finds promising and will present to management for consideration.

Some participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and pledged their commitment to venture into poultry production. They urged the public to embrace agriculture and called on government to support the institute to expand its services for the socio-economic development of the community and the country at large.

The training is expected to significantly contribute to local poultry production and strengthen efforts toward achieving food security and youth employment in the Eastern Region.
