BudgIT Ghana Launches Simplified 2025 Budget and Trains CSOs, Media on Advocacy and Budget Tracking

BudgIT Ghana, a civic technology organization, has launched its Simplified 2025 Budget Statement alongside a capacity-building workshop for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and media practitioners in Accra. The one-day event brought together 36 participants and aimed at strengthening stakeholder engagement, budget advocacy, and transparency in public financial management.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Jennifer Moffat, Country Manager of BudgIT Ghana, explained that the initiative was designed to equip participants with tools and strategies to interpret, simplify, and visualize national budget data. She emphasized that the workshop focused on enhancing advocacy skills, improving policy influence, and encouraging civic innovation under the theme:

“Enhancing Stakeholder Capacity for Inclusive Development.”

Ms. Moffat noted that the launch of the simplified budget is a testament to BudgIT Ghana’s commitment to making fiscal information accessible and understandable to citizens.

> "CSOs and the media play a vital role in translating technical budget data into relatable content for citizens," she said.

She urged participants to actively engage in the budget process and promote accountability and inclusive development through informed reporting and advocacy.

Also addressing the gathering, Mr. Oluseun Onigbinde, Global Director of the BudgIT Foundation, highlighted the importance of empowering stakeholders with practical tools for budget analysis and tracking.

He stated that CSOs and journalists must be able to:

Analyze national and local budgets

Identify service delivery gaps

Visualize data for effective community engagement

Advocate for marginalized groups

Collaborate for joint actions in influencing policy outcomes

"By strengthening the capacity of CSOs and the media, we are creating a more informed and active citizenry capable of demanding transparency and accountability from public officials," Mr. Onigbinde added.

The workshop forms part of BudgIT Ghana’s broader mission to promote inclusive development, civic innovation, and fiscal transparency across the country. Participants praised the initiative for offering actionable insights and tools to improve their roles in governance advocacy and public financial oversight.
