E/R:Self-Acclaimed Akyem Kukuratumi Fetish Priest Abandons Idol Worship After 30 Years, Embraces Christianity

A self-acclaimed Akyem Abuakwa Sumankwaahene and well-known fetish priest from Akyem Kukuratumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, Torgbui Shettor, has publicly renounced idol worship and surrendered his life to Jesus Christ after over three decades of practicing traditional spirituality.

Born into a fetish home and originally named Jerry Sefahu, Torgbui Shettor’s journey into idol worship began at a young age. His spiritual path took a dramatic turn when, as a Class Four pupil, he was reportedly taken into the wilderness by dwarfs for an entire year. Upon his return, he was left in a physically disabled state. His parents initially sought deliverance for him through a pastor, but when that effort failed, he was returned to the shrine, where he fully embraced the practices of idol worship.

Speaking in an interview with Bryt FM, Torgbui Shettor explained that his decision to abandon fetishism and turn to Christianity followed a divine revelation. He claimed that God appeared to him and called him to salvation, a vision that profoundly changed his outlook on life. Acting on this revelation, he attended a church service on Sunday, January 26, at the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) in Koforidua, where he publicly renounced his practices and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

During the service, he was prayed for, delivered, and officially led to Christ. Following his conversion, a prayer team from ICGC, led by Rev. Patrick Mawuli, visited his shrine and conducted a spiritual cleansing by burning over 200 idols and spirits.

In an interview after his deliverance, Torgbui Shettor expressed his profound joy and relief, describing his new faith as a liberation from the burdens of idol worship. Now a devoted Christian, he has pledged to dedicate himself to evangelism, visiting churches to share his testimony and encourage other idol worshippers to turn to Christ.

He also issued a stern warning to more than 200 self-proclaimed "men of God" who, according to him, had secretly sought spiritual powers from his shrine to establish their churches. He urged them to repent and genuinely follow God.

As a symbol of his transformation, Torgbui Shettor has requested to be given a new name, just as Saul became Paul after his encounter with God. His remarkable conversion has stirred widespread reactions, with many praising his courage in embracing a new spiritual path after decades of practicing traditional religion.
