On November 20, 2024, the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga, marked a significant milestone in education infrastructure by commissioning two key projects in the municipality. The projects included an ultramodern Municipal Education Directorate block in Akyem Tafo and a kindergarten block with ancillary facilities in Akyem Anweabeng. These developments aim to strengthen the foundation of quality education in the municipality.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony for the Education Directorate block, Dr. Babs Bodinga emphasized that the projects are a testament to the Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia-led government’s unwavering commitment to enhancing education across Ghana. The MCE expressed gratitude to Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, Chief of Akyem Tafo, for generously donating the land for the construction of the directorate at no cost. He also highlighted the essential role of the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, Hon. Dr. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, in lobbying for the project, which he noted will alleviate the financial burden of renting office spaces with funds from the Assembly’s common fund.
Dr. Babs Bodinga urged the education directorate to adopt a robust maintenance culture to ensure the edifice serves its purpose for years to come. He also extended his appreciation to Madam Abena Gyamerah, former GES Director of Abuakwa North, for her support throughout the project's execution.
Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV commended the government, the MP, and the Municipal Assembly for the project, stating that proper offices enhance productivity and improve service delivery. He called for the clearance of weeds around the building to enhance its visibility and reiterated his commitment to collaborating with the Assembly to foster socio-economic growth in the municipality.
Representing the MP, Mr. Stephen Osei Wusu, the Abuakwa North NADMO Director, praised Hon. Dr. Twum-Ampofo for her dedication to improving education in the constituency. He highlighted her contributions, including the recent success of Abuakwa North students in a STEM competition, where they represented the Eastern Region at the national level. He reaffirmed the MP’s commitment to ensuring sustained quality education in the area.
Former GES Director, Madam Abena Gyamerah, recounted the challenges the directorate faced while operating from rented premises, including disruptions caused by domestic animals. She thanked all stakeholders, including the government, Assembly, and Daasebre Adusei Peasah IV, for their swift action in addressing these challenges.
Mrs. Grace Adza-Awude, current Education Director for Abuakwa North, expressed gratitude to all parties involved in the project. She assured the audience that the directorate would prioritize the upkeep of the facility to maximize its benefits for education delivery in the municipality.
The event was attended by notable personalities, including Hon. William Adu Obiri (Presiding Member of the Assembly), Mr. Emil Atsu Tawiah (Municipal Coordinating Director), Assembly Members, GES staff, NPP constituency executives, party supporters, and members of the press.
In a separate event, Hon. Dr. Umar Babs Bodinga inaugurated a newly constructed kindergarten block with ancillary facilities for the Presbyterian Basic School in Akyem Anweabeng. The facility, which provides a conducive learning environment for young learners, underscores the Assembly’s commitment to building strong educational foundations.
The MCE emphasized the significance of early childhood education in shaping the future of children and pledged the Assembly’s continued support for educational initiatives in the municipality. The community expressed their gratitude, recognizing the project as a step forward in improving education access and quality in the area.
The commissioning of these two facilities marks a new chapter in the Abuakwa North Municipality's education sector. The collaboration between the government, traditional authorities, and stakeholders highlights the importance of collective effort in driving socio-economic development. The projects are expected to enhance educational standards and provide a strong foundation for the youth, ensuring a brighter future for the municipality.
