E/R:Abuakwa North NCCE Hosts Maiden Constitution Quiz to Mark 68th Independence Anniversary

The Abuakwa North Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), led by Mrs. Beatrice Opoku Budu, held its first-ever Constitution Quiz Competition on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. The event, organized to commemorate Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, also aimed to encourage students to join civic education clubs in their schools. It was held under the theme: "Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility."

The competition, which started at 10:30 AM at the New Tafo Presby Conference Hall, featured four selected basic schools: Feden JHS, Rose’s JHS, CRIG JHS, and Presby JHS. After an exciting and intellectually stimulating contest spanning five rounds, CRIG JHS emerged winners with 68 points. Presby JHS placed second with 58 points, followed by Rose’s JHS in third place with 54 points, while Feden JHS came fourth with 42 points.

Medals were awarded to the top three schools, while all contestants received certificates of participation and special gift parcels. Additionally, each participating school was presented with a copy of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

In an interview with Nana Kwasi Asare, Mrs. Ophelia Ankrah, the Eastern Regional Director of the NCCE, highlighted the significance of the competition in deepening students' knowledge of the Constitution. She explained that the quiz serves as a tool to assess the impact of regular engagements with civic education clubs in schools. She stated that this initiative is another avenue to instill constitutional knowledge in students and evaluate the effectiveness of civic education programs.

She expressed satisfaction with the level of knowledge displayed by the contestants, particularly in quoting constitutional articles and clauses. She emphasized that stronger collaboration between the NCCE and schools would further enhance civic awareness and national consciousness.

Mrs. Ankrah also revealed plans to host the next quiz competition live on radio to reach a wider audience across the municipality and beyond.

She concluded with a call to all Ghanaians to embrace civic responsibility, urging citizens to reflect on where the country stands and where it aims to be in the future. She stressed the need to cultivate a culture of responsibility by understanding and abiding by the laws of the land to become responsible citizens.

The competition marked a significant step in promoting constitutional literacy among young students and reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility in nation-building.
