Where Are They?" – A Call for Self-Examination and Faithfulness

In a sermon delivered at Koforidua Ascension Presbyterian Church, on the 15th Sunday after Pentecost, Catechist Vida Annan posed three poignant questions: "Where are you? Where is he/she? Where are they?" These questions served as the pivot of her message, challenging Christians to reflect on their faith, journey and commitment to God.
Catechist Annan expressed concern about the various reasons that keep Christians, including children, leaders, and even men and women of God, away from the house of God and off the Narrow path to salvation. She emphasized that if Christians were honest with themselves, there would be no need for a prophet to warn them of their missteps and rebellious attitudes against the Word of God.
She urged the congregation to conduct self-examination, identifying areas in which they have strayed from God’s Word and wandered onto the Broadway that leads to destruction.
Among the behaviors that cause this drift, the Catechist mentioned gossiping, immoral relationships, lying, trickery, theft (even in the house of God), selfishness, and unforgiving attitudes.

Catechist Vida Annan pointed out that the question; "Where are they?" is directed at the few remaining on the Narrow way of salvation, urging them to take note of those who have fallen away. She explained that it is often easier to sin than to live righteous life, and that, "easy-going" lifestyle cause many to backtrack from the Narrow way to the Broadway.
Drawing from Genesis 42:11-16, the Catechist recounted the story of Joseph’s brothers, whose hatred and wickedness blinded them from recognizing Joseph. She prayed that God keeps blinding enemies of the faithfuls as they continue on the path to salvation, just as He did for Joseph. Joseph forgave his brothers despite their wickedness to him and showed them love and humility. Catechist Annan called on Christians to follow Joseph’s example by embracing the spirit of love and forgiveness to bring back those who have wronged them, onto the road of salvation.
She also emphasized the importance of gratitude, citing the story of Jesus healing the ten lepers, after which only one returned to express gratitude. Catechist Vida Annan urged Christians to reflect on blessings they receive from God, including protection, healing, and provision of all good things and express gratitude in humility as they await the final words of salvation: *"Your faith has made you whole."*
The Catechist highlighted the power of strong determination, using the example of four lepers who, despite being outcasts, entered a city overtaken by the Syrians and caused the enemy to flee. These lepers, though rejected by their own people, showed love and concern by sharing the abundance they got with the Israelites.
Catechist Vida Annan called on all believers to boast not in themselves, but in the Lord, and to strive to remain among those who walk the Narrow way to God’s salvation.
