E/R: “Let’s Build the District Through Agriculture with Pure Farming” – Kwahu East District Marks 41st Farmers’ Day

The Kwahu East District Assembly has celebrated its 41st Farmers’ Day, honouring hardworking farmers whose contributions continue to sustain the country’s food security and rural economy. The event, held under the theme “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” also saw the recognition and awarding of the best-performing farmers in the district.

In his address, Hon. Samuel Asamoah, the Kwahu East District Chief Executive (DCE), said the Farmers’ Day celebration highlights agricultural innovation and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the district’s food systems. He noted that while agriculture continues to face several challenges, the district has laid the necessary groundwork to implement urgent reforms, particularly in irrigation development. According to him, these measures are building a strong foundation for a productive and inclusive local food economy.

On his part, 39-year-old Mr. Atanga Akwasi, popularly known as “Bone,” who engages in both crop and animal farming, emerged as the Kwahu East District Overall Best Farmer. In his acceptance remarks, he expressed gratitude to the district’s Agricultural Extension Agents for their continuous support. He encouraged fellow farmers to take extension advice seriously, noting that following proper farming practices and choosing the right crop varieties—as recommended by the Extension Agents—has significantly contributed to his success.
