NAIMOS Raids Illegal Mining Sites along Birim River leading to Arrest of Five Chinese Illegal Miners - 29 December 2025

  On Monday 29 December at about 1340 hours, a team of the National Anti Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) commenced the conduct of series of raids on illegal mining sites at Akyem Oda in the Birim central municipality. The raids led to the arrest of five (5) Chinese illegal miners who were actively mining and washing into the Birim river.  Two excavators found at the site were immobilized. One Toyota Hillux pickup and another Toyota Land cruiser used by the arrested Chinese illegal miners were seized by the taskforce. Several makeshift structures erected at the sites were destroyed together some water pumping machines and other mining equipment.  NAIMOS continues its crackdown along major water bodies during the festive season to prevent further pollution. Larkpleh Clan Raises Alarm Over Alleged Use of Soldiers as Land Guards, Appeals to Government and Military High Command

  The Chief and elders of the Larkpleh Clan Family in the Greater Accra Region have issued a strong appeal to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Minister for Defence, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Military High Command to urgently intervene in what they describe as the growing use of some soldiers for land guard activities. Addressing a press conference over an alleged threat to their ancestral lands, Asafoatse Tetteh Akroboso III of the Prampram Larkpleh Family expressed deep disappointment over the conduct of some military personnel, whom he claimed were allegedly contracted by private individuals to forcibly take over Larkpleh Clan family lands.   The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Hon. Tamimu Halidu, has distributed livelihood support items to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the municipality as part of efforts to empower them economically and reduce poverty. The initiative, which benefited over 41 physically challenged persons, is aimed at enhancing the social standing of PWDs, promoting self-reliance, and encouraging active participation in economic activities. Items distributed included deep freezers, fufu pounding machines, hair dryers, sewing machines, and other equipment to support small-scale businesses.
