E/R: Hon Atta-Kyea Declares Bawumia as NPP’s “Surest Bet” for 2026 Flagbearer Race

Hon. Samuel Atta-Kyea, former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South and former Minister for Works and Housing, has reaffirmed his strong endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the most suitable candidate for the New Patriotic Party’s 2026 Flagbearer elections scheduled for December 2026.

Speaking at Akyem Tafo during Dr. Bawumia’s visit on November 29, 2025, at the Mid-Tafo Presbyterian Church Auditorium, Hon. Atta-Kyea stated that Dr. Bawumia’s extensive public profile and visibility place him far ahead of the other aspirants. He emphasized that the Vice President has been projected so prominently that he leads all four other contenders.

The event drew several high-profile personalities, including Nana Akomea, former CEO of STC; Hon. Samuel Atta Kyea, former MP for Abuakwa South; Nana Kwame Ampaw Addo Frempong, MP for Abuakwa North; Hon. Umar Babs Bodinga, former MCE for Abuakwa North; Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, former MP for Abuakwa North; Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum, former MP for Fanteakwa South; Hon. Sammy Awuku, MP for Akuapem North; Mr. Frank Appiah, Eastern Regional NPP 1st Vice Chairman; Anthony Osei-Adjei, Eastern Regional NPP Secretary; and Alhaji Seidu Ibrahim, NPP Constituency Chairman for Abuakwa North.

Using a vivid analogy, Hon. Atta-Kyea noted that “the food is ready, it’s only left to be served, so why go back to the farm to start the process all over again?” He argued that choosing anyone other than Dr. Bawumia would be impractical considering the momentum he already commands.

Addressing claims circulating from other contenders, Hon. Atta-Kyea strongly dismissed assertions of tension and internal wranglings within the Abuakwa North Constituency. He insisted that the area remains united and urged the delegates to demonstrate this unity by voting massively for Dr. Bawumia in the January 2026 primaries, sending a clear message that the NPP in the enclave stands firmly together.

He further stressed that Ghana’s current challenges are primarily economic, requiring a seasoned economist to provide lasting solutions. Comparing it to seeking the right specialist for a patient, he said, “You don’t take a dental problem to a carpenter; you go to a dentist. In the same way, Ghana needs an economist like Dr. Bawumia to fix its economic issues.”

Hon. Atta-Kyea concluded by urging NPP delegates in Abuakwa North to rally solidly behind Dr. Bawumia for the progress and development of Ghana.
