E/R:New Juaben North MCE Warns Assembly Officials Over Non-Participation in National Sanitation Day

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben North in the Eastern Region, Hon. Samuel Adongo, has issued a stern warning to staff of the Municipal Assembly occupying government bungalows but failing to actively participate in the monthly National Sanitation Day exercises.

Speaking after last Saturday’s clean-up exercise held on 6th September 2025, the MCE expressed disappointment over the low turnout of some assembly workers, particularly those who benefit from government-provided accommodation. He noted that such behavior undermines the government’s efforts to maintain a clean, healthy, and environmentally safe municipality.

According to Hon. Adongo, the Assembly will not hesitate to revoke the occupancy rights of any official who continues to ignore this civic responsibility while enjoying the privilege of residing in state-owned bungalows.

> “It is unacceptable for staff who live in government bungalows to sit unconcerned while others are sacrificing their energy and time for the good of the community. We cannot condone such attitudes. Anyone who fails to join the exercise risks losing their accommodation,” the MCE stressed.

The MCE emphasized that sanitation remains a shared responsibility and reminded residents that the fight against poor environmental conditions requires collective action. He further assured that the Assembly will intensify monitoring to ensure full participation of both staff and community members in subsequent clean-up exercises.

The National Sanitation Day, introduced to promote cleanliness and prevent sanitation-related diseases, continues to be observed across the country on the first Saturday of every month. The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly has pledged to strictly enforce participation, especially among its staff, to set a good example for the wider public.
