E/R:Kwahu West MCE Commended for Steps Toward Resolving Tensions with Akroma Gold Mines


Traditional leaders and residents of Kwahu Esaase and adjoining communities in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region have praised the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Tamimu Halidu, for initiating meaningful steps toward a lasting resolution of longstanding disputes with Akroma Gold Mines Company.


Speaking on behalf of the traditional leaders and residents, Nana Acheampong Mintah, Kwahu Obo Nifahene, expressed confidence in the MCE’s efforts to address years of misunderstandings between the mining company and affected communities. He stressed that the new approach represents a more significant development than previous engagements, especially as it prioritizes the welfare of residents. According to him, the MCE’s intervention has been instrumental in restoring peace among the communities.

On his part, Hon. Tamimu Halidu reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Akroma Gold Mines fulfills its social responsibilities to the residents and honors royalty payments to the traditional authorities. He expressed optimism that the renewed dialogue will foster lasting peace and cooperation between the company and the local communities.
