E/R:ABUAKWA SOUTH NADMO DIRECTOR CHALLENGES DR. BAWUMIA’S CLAIMS OF POLITICAL INTIMIDATION
Mr. Aikins Ofori, the Abuakwa South Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), who also serves as the Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency, has questioned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent comments on political intimidation.
During his Ashanti Regional tour, Dr. Bawumia — the former Vice President — accused the NDC of using state institutions to intimidate members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing the alleged trend as deeply disturbing. According to him, the use of political power to harass opponents undermines Ghana’s democracy and must not be encouraged.
In response, Mr. Ofori took to Ahotor FM, where he challenged Dr. Bawumia’s assertions, reminding him of his own tenure as Vice President and Chairman of the Police Council. He questioned whether Dr. Bawumia was unaware that arrests and prosecutions often occur when individuals fall foul of the law, especially during political transitions.
Mr. Ofori recounted that in past administrations, including under the NPP, several individuals had been arrested and prosecuted for various offenses, himself included. He stressed that accountability before the law should not be mistaken for political intimidation.
He further argued that Dr. Bawumia, having been in a position of authority overseeing national security agencies, should be the last person to feign ignorance about the workings of law enforcement in the country.
Mr. Ofori urged Ghanaians to see beyond political rhetoric and hold leaders accountable for ensuring that state institutions operate fairly, rather than being manipulated for partisan purposes.
