E/R: Asiakwa Residents Foil Notorious Thief After Months of Rampant Robberies
Tension gripped Asiakwa, a community in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region, after angry residents apprehended a young man alleged to be behind a wave of thefts that had plagued the town for months.
The suspect, described by locals as a “notorious robber,” was reportedly caught with several stolen items in his possession. He was subjected to severe mob assault and narrowly escaped being lynched before community leaders intervened.
According to residents, the suspect had for months terrorized the town, moving from compound to compound and stealing items such as clothes, mobile phones, and chargers. Almost every household in Asiakwa was said to have fallen victim, with some families suffering repeated losses.
“He steals anything he can lay his hands on, especially clothes. People can’t even dry their things outside without fear,” one resident complained.
Frustrated by the recurring thefts, the residents reportedly tracked the suspect to his residence, where they confronted and attacked him. Eyewitnesses said he was beaten mercilessly and was only saved from being lynched after the intervention of some opinion leaders who calmed the mob.
A search of the suspect’s room led to the discovery of piles of stolen property, including clothing, mobile phones, and dozens of phone chargers. Many victims were able to identify their missing belongings, confirming suspicions that he was responsible for the string of robberies.
Residents expressed outrage at the extent of the thefts and called for stricter security measures to protect the community from similar incidents.
