E/R:Abuakwa North NCCE Inaugurates District Oversight Committee for APRM
Abuakwa North Municipality has taken a significant step toward promoting good governance with the successful election of executives for its District Oversight Committee (DOC) under the National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (NAPRM-GC).
The maiden meeting, held on January 21, 2025, at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Conference Hall, was chaired by the Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mrs. Beatrice Nyarkoah Budu. She welcomed all committee members and highlighted the critical role of the APRM in fostering political stability, economic growth, and sustainable development in Africa.
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), established in 2003 under the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), enables member states of the African Union to voluntarily assess their governance practices and adopt best policies to enhance democratic accountability and economic integration.
Following the briefing, the election of executives was conducted smoothly. The newly elected leaders of the Abuakwa North APRM District Oversight Committee are:
- Chairman: Nana Barima Owusu Frimpong
- Vice Chairman: Eric Seglah
- Secretary: Alhassan A. Fatawu
- Organizer: Esther Asante
- Members: Nana Kwasi Asare, Amakye Jonas, Sylvia Owusu, Awaitey Gideon, Victoria Kwaw-Morrison, Beatrice Nyarkoah Budu
The chairman, Nana Barima Owusu Frimpong, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the executives and assured the committee of their commitment to actively participating in the APRM initiative.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Budu thanked all members for honoring the invitation and contributing to the success of the meeting. She emphasized the importance of their collective effort in ensuring the effective implementation of governance policies in the Abuakwa North Municipality.
The meeting concluded successfully with a shared commitment to upholding the values of transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
